British Fashion Awards 2013

I was very lucky to have been given the chance to attend the British Fashion Awards at the Coliseum in Leicester Square, London last night. It is a brilliant ceremony that recognises the most influential people in fashion today and with a vote of nominees just 300 individuals then come to decide a winner for each category. There were in total 16 awards presented to the leading figures in fashion, awards that sincerely recognised the creative and design excellent talent across all areas of the industry. The event itself was hosted by the great comedian Jack Whitehall.

So the winners of the ceremony were:

Christopher Kane was named Womenswear Designer of the Year at the ceremony given his great reputation of enhancing women’s fashion. JW Anderson scooped the New Establishment Designer award and Nicholas Kirkwood received the Accessory Designer of the Year award. Burberry celebrated two big wins on the evening, collecting both the Designer Brand of the Year and the Menswear Designer of the Year awards, which was solely presented to Christoper Bailey for his great efforts in Burberry. Edie Campbell stepped up and beat Cara Delevingne and Sam Rollinson to the Model of the Year prize. For the past 12 months the nation has seen Edie appear in campaigns for exclusive brands including Marc Jacobs, Alexander McQueen and Lanvin. She undoubtedly dominated the SS14 catwalks, walking the runways in New York, London and Paris and opening shows for Saint Laurent, Burberry and Louis Vuitton. Futhermore her careers gone even further as she's also landed her first British Vogue cover, her win was very much deserved. Miuccia Prada was honoured with the event's International Designer of the Year award for her inspiring collections that have made an impact on the fashion industry. Sophia Webster received the Emerging Accessories Designer award, Simone Rocha received the Emerging Womenswear Designer award and Agi & Sam won the Emerging Menswear Designer award. Erdem won the Red Carpet Award. Lady Amanda Harlech won the Isabella Blow Award for Fashion Creator. British Style Award brought to you by Vodafone (voted by the public) was won by pop icon Harry Styles. Special Recognition Awards - Kate Moss recieved one of the Special Recognition Awards for her contribution to fashion over 20 years. She thanked all those in the fashion industry who have helped her over her 20 year career. Suzy Menkes also recieved a Special Recognition Award in recognition of her 25-year career at the International New York Times. The Outstanding Achievement in Fashion award was presented to Terry and Tricia Jones, founders of i-D, for their massive contribution to the fashion industry with such a great source of inspiration internationally in i-D magazine.

"The roll-call of winners announced this evening is a phenomenal display of talent in the fashion industry," said Natalie Massenet, chairman of the British Fashion Council. "The British Fashion Awards gives us the chance to commend not only the winners but celebrate all of the individuals that contribute to the incredible achievements that make London the best fashion destination in the world. I'm incredibly proud to be a part of the ceremony this evening, set in the heart of our creative capital; it provides the perfect climax to a truly momentous year of British fashion."
